Justice Tolbert | Soccer | Valdosta State University

Updated: 1 day ago

For Justice Tolbert, soccer isn’t just a sport, it’s her peace.
When she steps onto the field, everything else fades away. The noise, the pressure, the expectations. Soccer gives her freedom. It gives her clarity. And most importantly, it gives her purpose.
Where It Started

Born in Opelika, Alabama and raised in Huntsville from the age of seven, Justice grew up in an environment where competition was real and standards were high. Attending Grissom High School (7A) meant facing some of the best athletes in the state, every game was a test, and every season demanded growth.
Her journey into soccer began unexpectedly. At just five years old, she was playing tee ball, but it didn’t quite fit. What did stand out was her speed. Someone suggested soccer, she tried out, made the team and never looked back. By six years old, she was playing club soccer, unknowingly laying the foundation for the athlete she would become.
The Adversity That Shaped Her

Justice’s path hasn’t been smooth.
She’s endured two major knee surgeries, including an ACL tear, partial MCL damage, and two meniscus repairs, setbacks that test not just the body, but the spirit. There were moments she wanted to quit. Moments where the weight of rehab, doubt, and uncertainty felt overwhelming.
But each time, she reminded herself: “I didn’t come this far just to come this far.”
Staying positive became a choice. Believing that everything happens for a reason became a necessity.
Mindset. Discipline. Faith.

Justice believes greatness comes from alignment.
Mindset fuels motivation.
Mental discipline builds consistency.
Faith provides calm, purpose, and grounding during setbacks.
When all three are working together, she feels unstoppable.
The hidden work, the mental reps, the patience, the resilience, is where she believes games are truly won.
The Daily Grind

Her off-season routine reflects her commitment:
4:45 AM – Wake up
5:30–7:00 AM – Weight room
7:15–10:00 AM – Practice
Midday – Classes
Afternoon – Treatment, recovery, and extra solo training
Recovery is intentional: red light laser therapy, needling, cupping, because longevity matters.
Her philosophy is simple: “Practice how you play.”
Leadership & Pressure

Justice thrives under pressure. She welcomes it.
Pressure gives her something to prove. Her focus narrows to one thing, winning. She competes with edge, confidence, and intent, channeling doubt into fuel.
To her, leadership isn’t about volume. It’s about example, how you carry yourself, how you respect others, and how you show up when it’s hard.
Teammates would describe her as competitive, fast, and crafty, but above all, reliable.
Her Why
Soccer is where Justice finds peace. It’s where she feels most like herself. It’s where her hard work, sacrifices, and faith collide.
She inspires herself by acknowledging the battles she’s faced, many of them alone and the resilience it took to keep going.
Her mantra says it all: “Minor setbacks for major comebacks.”
Beyond the Game

While professional soccer is still a possibility, Justice is preparing for life beyond the field. As a Biology Pre-Med major, her long-term goal is to become a NICU Nurse, serving others with the same dedication she brings to her sport.
She spends time working with youth at the YMCA and coaching kids, understanding the responsibility that comes with being someone others look up to.
She wants to be remembered for more than goals or minutes played.
Legacy

Justice Tolbert wants her legacy to be clear:
Never quit
Give maximum effort
Inspire others to chase their goals, no matter the obstacles
Because in her story, resilience isn’t just a lesson, it’s a lifestyle.
One Word to Describe Her
Charismatic.
